Memories (by Alfredo O. Cuenca) There are certain memories/ A man can store for years/ And draw upon once in while/ Whenever the need appears. ... When you are twenty/ And your companion is lovely/ You look at the world with naivete/ Even as you are trying/ To earn a bachelor's degree/ On your parent's money/ Sent regularly from a distant/ And cooperativized municipality./ You could not even find/ The proper words just then/ To describe what was in your mind/ On a hot plebian day/ When you are twenty/ And your companion is lovely./ But you and I are certain/ Those memories will not return/ Unless for instance,/ You still find time/ To go back to school/ And graduation!/ ... You and I are certain/ Those memories will not persist/ Try as we might,/ In a world that is past,/ Of values that are dead./ ... But perhaps we still have time/ To be true to ourselves again,/ To know that we do not know,/ To remember what we may not remember,/ Of memories which you and I/ Can store for years/ And draw upon once in while/ Whenever the need appears./ Models: Jefferson Montera 510-26, Emily Oponda 510-18, Nonie Mapa 510-55, Charmae Jayson 510-52 and Ianne Montera 510-26S. |
